This dessert is served nice and cold so that the dessert can hold its shape. Since it is churned and mixed, it offers a smooth and light-texture dessert that is also creamy.
The first mention of ice cream was in the ancient times of China. Chinese used a mixture of buffalo milk, flour, and ice to make the dessert and rumor say it was a beloved treat by King Tang of Shang. In the 19th-century ice cream really took off when the dairy industry used their advanced technology to start mass-producing it.
Let’s chat about gelato
Now that we know ice cream is light and creamy, what’s the big deal about gelato? The Italians first created gelato, and it is actually the Italian name for ice cream. Gelato is made with a custard base, similar to ice cream, but it has more milk in it and less cream and eggs. Some gelatos don’t have eggs at all. With gelato, you churn at a slower rate of speed than ice cream, and it has less air mixing into it.
In doing this gelato is left with a denser texture than ice cream. The difference between gelato and ice cream is it is also served at a warmer temperature than ice cream. They do this because the gelato will have a silkier and softer consistency when you eat it.
