New TUNE Promo Poster

I actually wanted to use this for the cover of Book 2, but my publisher wasn't into it, so I decided to make it into this new promo poster. Speaking of which, TUNE, Book 2: Still Life will be out on November 12th, and is now available for preorder on Amazon.

YAY!

Don't want to be pushy, but any chance on-line updates will start again?

No, no worries, Steve, I'm glad someone's still interested! :)

My publisher hasn't given me any numbers or whether they want to continue with the series yet so I don't know, but looking occasionally at the Amazon rankings, it looks like it's selling on par with all my previous books. So you know, shitty. haha. I think it's too early to tell what my publisher is going to decide but unless things pick up with the 2nd book, I'm guessing it's looking pretty grim. We'll see what happens.

But if my publisher passes on the series after Book 2, I'll at least email the script for the rest of this first story arc to anyone that wants it so I don't leave you guys that have been reading thus far hanging. That's the best I can promise right now. Sorry, wish I could say with more certainty about what's going to happen, but I don't have any idea myself at this point. But thank you for the support if you have been following the series!!

That would be a damn shame.

Would you consider a kickstarter and self-publishing? I know it's not the preferred method; you would rather make it in the general mainstream market place. But I'll be honest with you - I don't think the mainstream market is where the interesting stuff is happening. I'm not looking for Family Circus or Garfield.

Vol. 2! Yay! That's good news. I hope it's going to be successful enough to continue the story as a comic (online and then with Vol. 3 etc.).

Besides, a couple of weeks ago I found a copy of Vol. 1 at my trusted comic book shop. That's cool because it's really a small shop and I never expected to see "TUNE" there. So, if "TUNE" can make it to some small shop in the middle of Germany it should be able to make it anywhere. ;-)

Steve, I just went through a kickstarter campaign, and having done it now, I've got to say, I'm not fond of that method, for a lot of reason too detailed to get into here. So no, I don't have any plans or desire to get into that again.

Dieter, that's so cool. Thanks for letting me know!

Yaaay! The poster looks great, and I'm glad to hear that TUNE is still alive and kickin'. I hope life has been treating you well, both professionally and personally (and I hope that line on Twitter about being thousands of dollars in debt was an exaggeration... u_u). It's good to hear from you!

Derek Kirk Kim said...

Nope, not an exaggeration unfortunately. But no worries, I got a dayjob now that's helping me chip away at it.

And thanks! Glad you like the poster!

By the way, have you tried posting some drawings of "Tune" on deviantart or something? Can't you ask Les to cook up some of them? Seriously, when I did a search, the results were smaller than Andy's pruny dinklage.(I like how it sounds, pruny dinklage. I'm going to use it everytime I describe a male's reproductive organs.....shut up).

Anyway, you got to learn the tactics of internet virology. Learn how certain things go from unnoticeable to insanely popular.
Think nyan cat! Think over 9000! Think Gangnam Style! Be a bit more ambitious, dude. The internet is full of these opportunities.

If only it were that easy.

Man, why couldn't it be that easy? You've got your hands on pure-gold material, but you just don't know it yet.

You're acting like Andy when he realized he was trapped in that dimension for life, when I was like Alt-Yumi who just made a once-in-a-lifetime discovery that could change the course of humankind. It's all about the perspective, man.

I have been to the comic book/graphic novel/manga section of bookstores and libraries many times and most of the times I skim through those pages with disinterest. Only when I came across "Tune" in my local public library did you make me open my eyes the size of the universe. It's like man has discovered fire, or sliced bread has been invented, or realizing that the internet can be used as a porn distribution method (Okay, bad analogy, but you get where I'm going with this, right?)

A storyteller can truly be great if he learns from his own stories. Be more like Alt-Yumi and takes this as an opportunity instead of a dead-end in the labyrinth of life.

I already ordered two copies of Book 1 at Barnes & Nobles, My cousin and I loved your work. We'll do our best to spread the word. Wish you good luck!!!

Also, I sort of having trouble with putting comments on the tunecomics website. Whenever I try, it said "comment is awaiting moderation" or something. Then the comment I wrote just disappeared. WTF?!

That's a shame because I got about a bazillion things I want to say on each and every one of those pages. Help me out here, please. I appreciate it.

Dat Vinci said...

Oh..uh, just saw my comments pop up from tunecomics again. Nvm......

Derek Kirk Kim said...

Thanks for all your thoughts, Dat Vinci. And for all the support and spreading of the TUNE gospel, I really appreciate it! I wish everyone liked Tune as much you!

Dat Vinci said...

By the way, Derek. What graphics program did you use in making that "Tune" poster? I was thinking of flooding deviantart with fan art of "Tune" so that even a bum knows what "Tune" is and would be more-than-willing to spend his hard-earned money to buy a copy of your book, hehehe. (I'm just exaggerating, of course......wait, no I'm not.)

Sadly, my artistic talent is even lower than those drawing stick figures in a bathroom stall. I'm an engineering major in college and have a familiarity of orthographic projection drawings and Solidworks, if that means anything at all. I could just think of this as a hobby and spend a couple hours a day learning the essentials, but it'll be nice to get some tips from a pro like you and Les. I'll probably spend those couple of hours on web-surfing/video games anyway, so it'll be a nice change of pace in habit.

I have thought of making some sort of meme/demotivational with cutoffs
from the comic (example: you can pretty much insert any inspirational quote on Ch7/pg84 and it'll look awesome) but the meme world is an ugly place full of trolls, haters, and weirdos and I don't want to ruin the innocence that this comic has. Ah who am I kidding? I'm talking about a guy who makes a habit of covering a male's private parts with the picture of an eggplant! Anyway, tell me what you think.

Man, I can't tell you how difficult it is to fall asleep while thinking about what to draw for my first fan art of "Tune". Maybe it'll be a picture of Andy and Yumi kissing in the sunset and the title would say "Our Love Transcends Alternate Dimensions." Or an actual cover art of "Parallel Voyage" with a semi-dark background and Andy holding a Tuner key on one hand and a sketch book on the other. Or Yumi putting on a Pikachu outfit while Andy stares awkwardly while standing besides her. Or anything involving Dash's puppy-dog eyes!!!

Anyway.......thank you for even taking your time into reading this comment and I appreciate any feedback you give me.
