Stumptown Coming

As mentioned before Stumptown is only a week away. (April 18th and 19th) The guest of honor this is year is none other than Jeff Smith. How cool is that?

I'll be at table 117, and I'll also be on a panel on Saturday, in the Idaho Room:

3:00-3:45pm Writing for Comics A panel discussion exposing and exploring the different approaches—from "thumbnails" to full scripts—of writing comics. With Trevor Alixopulos, T Edward Bak, Vanessa Davis, Derek Kirk Kim, and Joey Sayers. Moderated by Jesse Reklaw.

Anyway, remember when I said I'd have Lowbright #2 ready for Stumptown? Sadly, it's just not going to happen. I've been working my ass off on it, but it's just too labor intensive to finish in the small amount time I allotted myself for it. Now I'm shooting for the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in May. If I don't have it for sale at that show, you can personally give me a wet willy.

Here's a sneak peak of what you'll find in Lowbright #2:

Thanks, guys!

Jeremy, I won't be at MOCCA unfortunately. Good to see you're getting a table there. Best of luck!

the one time i visited korea, i was six. this drawing brings to mind one particular time from my visit.

i was walking down a rainy street in incheon with my mom. it looked a whole lot like the one drawn here, with crumbling water-stained walls and overcast sky. a strange old man took the umbrella i was holding over my head and started walking away with it. my usually mild-mannered mom flipped out and bitched him out in broken english. he was stunned and probably didn't understand a word she was saying.

i got my umbrella back.

That was a good story.

And Derek's Lowbright v.2 looks like a good one too!

Derek, What a terrific image -- and the balloon is outside the panel! Forgive my busting in here, but when you and Gene and I spoke the other day, you had mentioned an indie comics creator you admire, along with Chester Brown and Chris Ware, and I had jotted down "Laura Part," but I can't find her work anywhere, so I'm sure I've got her name wrong. Could I ask you to let me know the correct name (this was a comics artist you mentioned in connection with "Urgent Request"). Many thanks!

Hey Jennifer, thanks again for the interview. The artist name is Laura Park and actually she's in the links section of this very site over on the right there.

Chong, that's just bizarre... What a crazy ajusi...

Derek, the pleasure was all mine! Now, why didn't I think of checking your links? I did indeed find Laura Park there! Many thanks!

When did Lowbright #1 come out?

A while ago. I only sell them at conventions at the moment, but I'm hoping to get some kind of mail ordering system for it in the near future...
